Laure Zanna Participates in Schmidt Science Fellows Selector Workshop

Laure Zanna recently participated in the 2025 Schmidt Science Fellows Selector Workshop, held in Pasadena as part of the Interdisciplinary Science Summit. The workshop brought together academic reviewers and selectors from across disciplines to reflect on and strengthen the Fellowship’s rigorous selection process for identifying the next generation of interdisciplinary scientific leaders.
During the workshop, participants discussed best practices for evaluating candidates, including how to assess scientific excellence alongside leadership, collaboration, and the ability to successfully “pivot” into a new research field. Reflecting on the discussions, Laure noted that the workshop provided valuable insights into balancing these different aspects of the selection process while learning from fellow selectors. The meeting also explored how generative AI could support reviewers with routine tasks while preserving human judgment for nuanced evaluation.
