Laure Zanna to Co-Lead NYU’s New Earth Systems Institute

New York University has announced the creation of the Earth Systems Institute, a multidisciplinary initiative that will bring together expertise from across the university to advance understanding of our changing planet using artificial intelligence, computational science, and environmental research.

The institute will be co-led by Laure Zanna, alongside Miguel Modestino (NYU Tandon School of Engineering) and Sonali Shukla McDermid (NYU College of Arts and Science).

The Earth Systems Institute aims to develop innovative approaches for predicting environmental change and improving society’s ability to prepare for and respond to climate-related challenges. As Professor Zanna notes, “Understanding and addressing the rapidly changing nature of environmental forces that affect Earth require both innovative and precise measures.”
